Department of Urdu organizes Forman Urdu Conference 2018
The Forman Urdu Conference 2018 was held on 25 April 2018, in which the leading intellectuals, teachers and personalities from the country attended the event. It consisted of four sessions. Inaugural session was led by Assistant Professor of Urdu, Hina Patrick. Prof Tahir Masood, The Chief Coordinator, Forman Urdu Conference 2018, presented the views about the Urdu writings of Dr Charles W Forman, The Founder of Forman Christian College (A Chartred University). He commented that Dr Forman has wrote many texts in Urdu language and has also been a part of Committee on Urdu Textbooks by the Government of Punjab, but the historians of Urdu Literature ignored the services of Urdu writings rendered by Dr Charles W Forman for the development of Urdu. Prof Tahir also presented the report regarding the last year’s Urdu Conference. Aneel Samuel, Assistant Professor and Head of the Urdu Department, welcomed the guests. Dr James A Tebbe, FCCU emphasized that Urdu is our national language and it cannot be ignored in anyway.He also shared the news of starting degree in MPhil Urdu.
After inaugural session, on the topic of Atadal Pasandi aur Urdu Zaban-o-Adab, Prof Dr Saadat Saeed, Distinguished Professor of HEC, presided the first session. The session was led by Prof Tahir Masood. After explaining the topic, he introduced the speakers and invited them to present their motives. Dr Saima Iram, Dr Haroon Usmani, Dr Nasir Abbas Nayyer, Dr Fakhar ul Haq Noori presented the papers. At the end of the session, Dr Najeeb Jamal presented souvenirs and flowers to the respected guests from the Urdu department. The second session was on the subject of Urdu ki Taleem aur Ikeeswien Saddi and comprised of (R) Muhammad Akram Naul, Dr Sarmad Hussain and Prof CJ Dubash presentations. In this session, Dr Abida Batool performs the duties of the naqeeb. Prof Dubash honored both guests with souvenirs and flowers, while Assistant Professor, Aneel Samuel presented souvenirs and bouqet to Prof Dubash. The third session started after the break. Prof Shahzad Ansar played the role of Naqeeb in this session, while presiding over Prof Dr Mahdi Hassan, Chairperson Pemra Complaint Council Punjab. Discussing topics such as drama, movie, journalism and literature of children. Muhammad Shoaib Mirza, Wajahat Masood, Abdul Rauf and Dr Asghar Nadim Syed presented the papers on this topic based on the subject of Urdu Literature and Media. At the end of this session, Assistant Professor and Chairperson of Mass Communication Department, Rachel Aruna Hassan honored guests with souvenirs and flowers. Dr Mehdi Hassan donated five copies of his book to Ewing Memorial Library at FCCU. After the third session of the Conference, Aaraish e Ghazal was organized in which FCCUstudents Saqib, Afak and Sheral performed. Assistant Professor, Hina Patrick, thanked all the members and participants. At the end of the conference, certificates were also distributed to all the participants.
