FC College View mapA seminar on Sigmund Freud’s life, work, and legacy was organized by the Forman Freuds on November 11, 2025, at Sinclaire Hall. Nearly 160 humanities students participated in the event. The session began with recitations from the Holy Bible and the Holy Quran. Later Aarib Tariq, the Club President, highlighted key aspects of Freud’s life, his birth in 1856 in Germany, later moved to Vienna- Austria, where he was educated and trained as a doctor and neurologist and became lifelong curious about the hidden aspects of the human mind.
Ms. Nabila Naphtali, Assistant Professor of Psychology at FCC, Head of Department of Social Sciences and Head of College Guidance Office, was the resource person, delivered an engaging explanation of Freud’s major theories. She shared that the Iceberg Theory used to illustrate the conscious, preconscious, and unconscious levels of the mind, emphasizing how deeply hidden desires and fears shape human behavior. Explaining Freud’s Theory of Personality; Id, Ego, and Superego, she elaborated Freud’s three competing forces influencing decision-making. Common defense mechanisms such as denial, rationalization, projection, and humor were also discussed.
The seminar concluded with Freud’s lasting legacy in psychology and ethics. His ideas on the unconscious mind, talk therapy and the role of childhood experiences were highlighted, along with his contribution to understanding morality through the Superego and the balance between personal freedom and social responsibility. The participants took great interest in the session. Many asked engaging and thoughtful questions, which reflected their curiosity and enthusiasm to understand Freud’s theories more deeply.
