An extension lecture was held in the Ewing Memorial Library, FCCU on Thursday 11 May 2017 under the Teaching and Learning Forum and Urdu Department banner titled ‘Rubaiyat-e-Sadequain’. Renowned Urdu Poet known as the ‘Father of Rubai’ Professor Mamun Aiman was the guest speaker. Prof Mamun started the Urdu literary activities in North America in August 1964 to organize an Urdu Mushaira. He is a broadcaster, critic, essayist and author of many books among other notable accomplishments.
Prof Mamun started the lecture with the historical aspects of Rubaiyat – e – Sadequain then read an essay he wrote on Sadequain’s poetic collection ‘Juzv e Boseeda’. He also shed light on three main aspects of his poetry which are Khud kalami, Yarf Nigahi and Sawal Aamezi. The qualities of Sadequain’s Poetry were discussed after which Prof. Mamun recited the Rubaiyat-e-Sadequain. In the end Prof Mamun recited his own poetry written the same style, diction.
Lecturer, Hina Patrick concluded the session with a vote of thanks to the honorable speaker and guests. Assistan Professor and Head of Department, Siddiq Masih presented souvenirs to the speaker and Prof Mamun donated two of his new books to the Ewing Memorial Library.
