Physics Dept holds Inauguration Ceremony of Benade Physics Museum

Benade Physics Museum was inaugurated by the Rector FCCU, Dr. James A. Tebbe in presence of esteemed guests from Friends of Forman, Vice Rector (Intermediate), Dr. Ivan Suneel, FCCU Administration, Heads of the Departments, and Faculty and Staff of Physics Department on February 13, 2020 at Susheela Building. In the inauguration ceremony which was attended by the above mentioned honorable guests, the Head of the Physics Department, Mr. Muhammad Iqbal and Head of Museum Committee, Mr. Tanvir Ahmad explained how this occasion is of great honor for the Department. The antique and valuable apparatus and equipment collected in the museum is a remnant of a long history of research and education at the Physics Department and has been accumulating here for more than a century. As these were of no use in the laboratories whatsoever the apparatus got covered into layers of dust over decades. Most of the apparatus and equipment present in the Museum has been used by eminent faculty of Physics Department FCC, including Prof. J. M. Benade and Prof. W. C. Thoburn.

Last year, under the vision and instructions of Vice Rector (Intermediate), Dr. Ivan Suneel, it was decided that this treasure will be restored and displayed by forming a Physics Museum. Head of Physics Department, Mr. Mohammad Iqbal immediately constituted a committee for this task under Mr. Tanvir Ahmad and after continuous hard work from the whole department, Room-29 is now a place of historical significance for the FCCU Community and will be a place of awe and inspiration for our students.
