In 1907, under the visionary leadership of Prof. D. J. Flemming (1906- 1912) Department of Physics came into being. Many distinguished professors and researchers including Nobel Laureate Dr. Arthur H. Compton, Prof. J. M. Benade (1912 to 1970) and Prof D. J. Fleming (1906 to 1912) served as faculty members here. Dr. Arthur Compton conducted his research on cosmic rays in what is now Susheela Building of the Physics Department and later in 1927 he received the Nobel Prize for Physics for his work. Currently, the Physics Department at Forman Christian College (A Chartered University), Lahore is the largest department in the college section in terms of the number of faculty members and academic support staff. The department currently caters to the academic needs of 54 Intermediate Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical and ICS Sections. The department is fully committed to and sincerely involved in serving the students while looking for academic excellence and inculcation of FCCU core values in them.
The Physics Department has three laboratories equipped with modern tools which help us provide a strong experimental base to our students. Beyond the academic domain, faculty and staff of the Physics department are always on the forefront when it comes to providing services to the institution and living by the motto, ‘By Love Serve One Another’.
